If you haven’t been to Beacon just yet – you should mosey over this weekend. Second Saturdays are surely fantastic fun, especially when there is an Open Studios Event.

You see last year while visiting Beacon’s Open Studios I was not only impressed by the art, the artists and the town, I was pulled enough to realize that Beacon, NY was the new city for me to live in.

So today I will be dropping off a sample of my art to the Hudson Beach Glass over on Main St. which will host the kick off celebration and reception this year during Beacon’s Second Saturdays.

This year’s Beacon Open Studios will have over 60 artists. Participating artists include nationally and internationally exhibited names as well as those who will be showing their work for the first time. This free, city-wide art event invites the public into local artists’ studios, allowing visitors to chat with artists, view their art, and get an up-close look at the spaces in which they create.

This year, an additional venue to showcase the artists work will be Truck City 2011 as a pop-up open studio site. Participating artists will create their own installations in rented moving trucks. Trucks will be parked together in a Truck City (location TBA) for visitors to wander through at their leisure during Open Studios hours.

Hudson Beach Glass will host the Kickoff Exhibition in the upstairs gallery featuring a single work from each of the participating artists.

Visitors can pick up a Beacon Open Studios catalog which includes a map to the studios all over town.
